Counties Cup promises quality racing and entertainment
This Saturday at Pukekohe Park!
Pukekohe Park's Natalie Jamieson said this year's event - on Saturday, November 25, would wow the crowds.
"We've been putting heaps of work into it and getting a lot of people excited. It's getting bigger each year.
"I'm looking forward to an awesome day, hopefully the sun is shining. There's a lot happening in between races, and it's quite well known in terms of a stayer's race.
"Last year's winner went on to win the Brisbane Cup and ran third behind Winx. It shows that there's some good horses that progress."
Pukekohe jockey Alysha Collett is hoping to land a ride in the cup. She is leading the national premiership and this will be her fifth Counties Cup day.
"It's always a good turn out and a good day" Collett said.
"The Fashion in the Field is really good, there's a lot going on and it's a good day for the locals. It's quality racing compared to most Saturdays."
Pokeno fashionista and milliner Belinda Green was gearing up for a great day.
Also known as the raceday catwalk competition, the Fashion in the Field held on the day can be viewed from the main grandstand and offers more than $4000 worth of prizes to the contestants, including a cash prize and a SsangYong Rexton for the week.
"I love the fashion, catching up with all the locals and meeting heaps of people who come to me for hats...hopefully a good fashion crowd comes along," Green said.
"The Counties Cup is always a raceday I look forward too. The local crowd makes a great atmosphere and I always seem to make a dollar or two on the horses. It must be a lucky day for me".
There will be a few surprises in between the live horseracing action, with interesting entertainment, including a Brazilian dance group and horseback vaulting.
