Rumble in the Park
Successful event at Pukekohe Park over the weekend
Thousands of car enthusiasts rolled into Pukekohe Park on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February for the inaugural Rumble in the Park.
The grassroots motorsport event had plenty of racing to entertain, a swap meet organised by the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club and Meremere Dragway, Tiger Moths flying in and out of the Park and a range of classic car displays on show.
Families enjoyed a fun weekend with a highlight being
the free waterslides on offer to keep them cool as temperatures soared to 24
degrees.
A popular event on Saturday night, the Mount Shop Roll
Up Drag racing, saw local Phil Davies, in a Jeep Grand Cherokee 6.4 L Hemi run
in third spot, Simon Johnson in Mercedes E55 AMG in second and taking out first
place and winning $1000 worth of Mount Shop vouchers, was Dave Moyle driving a
Falcon XF Ute.
The Mount Shop Rattla cars also took to the circuit
over the weekend to ‘burn some rubber’ with some impressive drifting displays
between drags, and a lot of smoke.
Pukekohe Park event coordinator Peter Hunt was
delighted with the weekend’s event, saying "it was a great start to get Rumble
in the Park off the ground for its first year and we had a lot of good feedback
from key stakeholders”.
Rumble in the Park promises to return back to Pukekohe
Park next year even bigger with some work underway already for the 2018 event.
