Franklin motorsport fans, get ready to rumble

Rumble in the Park, 11-12 Feb

A new event is coming to Pukekohe that is set to impress motorsport fans from across the district.

Rumble in the Park, held at Pukekohe Park on February 11-12, will see Meremere Dragway and Pukekohe Hot Rod Club combining forces to pull off a fantastic event.

The weekend will feature a swap meet, hot rod displays, classic car displays, and Tiger Moth's will be flying in for a visit as well.

Pukekohe Hot Rod Club president Trevor Williams said the event was focused on grassroots motorsport fun for the whole family.

"In most cases you walk around a swap meet and spend four hours there, buy your trinkets and go. Here, people can be actively involved with the motorsport - it's like a cross pollination of everything that's got wheels."

There will also be Waterslide Mania slides to keep the kids entertained for free, and there will be plenty of racing as well - including the latest trend to hit Australasia, roll up drag racing.

This will see competitors perform a rolling start at 50kmh, before flooring it down the Pukekohe Park straight. The old Garden Bar will be up and running, and for those who simply cannot miss any action, camping overnight is available too.

Pukekohe Park's Peter Hunt said it's an event they would love to grow as large as possible over the next few years.

"Hopefully we can grow this into a major event for the region, and Pukekohe Hot Rod Club and Meremere Dragway. We just want to have as many people as possible coming down to celebrate grassroots motorsports for the whole family. As time develops we want to grow it more and more."
