DHL Counties Cup Day
DHL Counties Cup day on Saturday 19 November was a tremendous success for the Counties Racing Club. The DHL Counties Cup 2011 winner Postmans Daughter was a very popular one being trained and ridden by local horse persons Danielle Johnson then went on to take the listed Counties Bowl in the following race on the Peter McKay runner Undisclosed.Peter McKay based in Matamata was also successful in the Murdoch Newell Stakes with his two year old Travino.
The locals were once again to the fore in other group 2 on the afternoon which was the NRM/Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes. The Moira Murdoch and Dominic Olsen runner Fazzle who was bred and owned by Mrs Torrance was the best in the run to the line.
The over-all winner of the NZWW 'Fashion in the Field' for this year was Summer Kern of Pukekohe who will now go on to the Nissan Prix de Fashions at Ellerslie.
The club was pleased with the result of 2011 DHL Counties Cup Day and are looking forward to the 2012 event.
CHRISTMAS AT THE RACES.
Wednesday November 30 was the Christmas at the Races meeting for the Counties Racing Club. It was nice warm day, with the festive spirit in the air. Santa was there, the mini-marquees wearing Santa hats the Jazz band was playing and all on course were having a ball.The nine race card turned into ten with good stakes on offer throughout the day. The NRM Fillies & Mares Series final was the feature on the day and was won by local trained runner Kahala for Cydne Evans.
END OF YEAR MEETING.
The End of Year meeting held on Wednesday 14 December was full of Christmas cheer with several groups celebrating their end of year work functions.With the rooms full and weather fine it was a good days racing and once again locally trained horses met with success..
