Westbury Stud to Sponsor Listed Mile on 20 September, and "30,000 Dollar Day" Revived

For their forthcoming September race meeting Counties Racing Club are excited to announce a new sponsor for the $60,000 listed mile open handicap and the revival of "30,000 Dollar Day".

Karaka based Westbury Stud will sponsor the former listed Jim and John Evans Classic, which will now be known as the Westbury Stud Karaka Classic, and every other race on the card will be worth $30,000, reminiscent of the nineties when Counties held their innovative race days.

The last "30,000 Dollar Day" was held in 1998. Around that time minimum stakes for Saturday racing were increased, and the $30,000 race day concept was no longer novel or viable, and became obsolete.

The club plans to host its annual owners function at this meeting. The meeting on Sunday September 20th will feature nine races at $30,000 and the listed 1600m Open Handicap will be at $60,000. The new race day programme includes an Open (Listed Race) 1600m, Rating 90 2400m, Rating 90 1200m, Rating 80 1400m, Rating 70 2400m (TBS Bonus $7,500), Rating 70 1200m, Maiden CG&E 1600m, Maiden F&M 1600m, and Maiden 1300m.
